Overview

AJ Guerin ("I", "me", "my") respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information I collect through ajguerin.com, why I collect it, and how I handle it.

I am a sole trader author based in Cairns, Queensland, Australia. This policy is written to align with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), even where a small business exemption may otherwise apply.

What I collect

• Email address and name, if you sign up to my mailing list.
• Message content and contact details, if you use the contact form.
• Automatically collected data, including your general location, device and browser type, and which pages you visit, gathered through Google Analytics and Google Search Console.

I do not knowingly collect sensitive information, financial information, or any information from children.

How I collect it

I collect information directly from you when you fill in a form on this site, such as the newsletter signup or the contact form. I also collect information automatically through cookies and analytics tools when you browse the site, and through data Google Search Console gathers about how people find this site via Google Search.

Why I collect it

I use your information to:

• Send you updates about my books, including release dates and mailing list content you've signed up for.
• Respond to messages sent through the contact form.
• Understand how visitors find and use the site, so I can improve it.

I will not sell your personal information, and I will not use it for anything beyond these purposes without asking you first.

Cookies and analytics

This site uses Google Analytics to understand traffic and usage, and Google Search Console to understand how people find this site through search. Both use cookies and collect data such as your approximate location, device type, and browsing or search behaviour connected to this site. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking using the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or by adjusting your browser's cookie settings.

Storage and overseas disclosure

Your information is stored and processed by the following third parties, some of which are located overseas:

• Kit (ConvertKit), my email marketing platform, based in the United States, stores mailing list subscriber data.
• Google Analytics and Google Search Console, based in the United States, process site analytics and search-performance data.
• Netlify, my website host, based in the United States, may process data as part of serving this site.
• GitHub, based in the United States, hosts the source code and infrastructure of this site. It does not directly process visitor personal information, but is listed here for transparency about the site's technical infrastructure.

By providing your information, you consent to it being handled by these providers as part of the services they provide me.

How long I keep it

I keep mailing list information for as long as you remain subscribed. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email I send, which removes you from future contact. Contact form enquiries are kept only as long as needed to respond to and resolve your enquiry.

Your rights

You can ask me to:

• Tell you what personal information I hold about you.
• Correct any information that is wrong or out of date.
• Delete your information, subject to any legal obligation I may have to retain it.

Children

This site and its content, including The Sorceress series, are intended for an adult audience. I do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.

Changes to this policy

I may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last revised. Continued use of this site after a change means you accept the updated policy.

If you believe I have mishandled your personal information, contact me first using the details below so I can try to resolve it directly. If you're not satisfied with my response, you can lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
